Coastal Carolina lost the final game of its Sun Belt Conference baseball series against Old Dominion, falling 9-2 at Springs Brooks Stadium on May 10. The loss ended a streak of 16 consecutive conference series wins for the Chanticleers dating back to last season.

The game began with Old Dominion’s Will Johnson hitting a solo home run as the leadoff batter, giving the Monarchs an early lead. Old Dominion then added four more runs over the third and fourth innings, increasing their advantage to 5-0.

Coastal Carolina responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jackson Winer hit an RBI single that scored Rex Watson from second base, reducing the deficit to four runs. After another Monarchs run in the seventh, Coastal managed to score again when Watson brought home a run on a fielder’s choice during their half of the inning, making it a 6-2 contest.

Old Dominion secured its win by adding three more insurance runs over the last two innings and keeping Coastal Carolina from scoring further. Winer and Watson each drove in one run for Coastal Carolina, while Dean Mihos recorded two hits during the game.

With this result, Coastal Carolina now holds an overall record of 34-17 and is 20-7 in Sun Belt Conference play. The team will look to rebound when it hosts The Citadel for its regular-season home finale on Tuesday night at Springs Brooks Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN+.
