Coastal Carolina University’s men’s basketball team will continue its Sun Belt Conference schedule with an away game against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Georgia, on Saturday. The Chanticleers are aiming to secure their third consecutive win, which would mark their longest winning streak of the season.

Georgia Southern has maintained a perfect home record this season at 8-0 and has secured three conference victories at home, including wins over Georgia State, James Madison, and Old Dominion. Most recently, the Eagles defeated Old Dominion 87-84.

Coastal Carolina comes into the matchup having won three straight road games and holds a 6-6 record in away contests this year. Their road wins include games against Saint Joseph’s, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Winthrop.

Statistically, Georgia Southern averages 83.8 points per game—second highest in the Sun Belt—but has allowed opponents an average of 80 points per contest, ranking them near the bottom of the conference defensively. Coastal Carolina’s defense is ranked fifth in the league by holding teams to an average of 72.4 points per game.

Spudd Webb leads Georgia Southern with an average of 16.6 points per game. Teammates Tyren Moore (13.4), Alden Applewhite (12.7), and Nakavieon White (10.6) also contribute double-digit scoring averages. Moore stands out in the conference for his three-point shooting percentage (.355) and three-pointers made per game (2.63).

For Coastal Carolina, Joshua Beadle, Rasheed Jones, and AJ Dancler each average more than 14 points per game and are all among the top twenty scorers in the conference; Beadle is ninth overall, Jones is fifteenth, and Dancler is eighteenth in scoring rankings. Together they lead all league trios with a combined average of 44.7 points per game.

The two teams last faced each other on January 1 at HTC Center where Spudd Webb scored one free throw with two seconds left to give Georgia Southern an overtime victory over Coastal Carolina by a score of 82-81. In that meeting Beadle scored 21 points for Coastal while Dancler and Jones contributed eighteen each; Nadjrick Peat added eight points along with a season-high fifteen rebounds as Coastal held a significant rebounding advantage.

Webb led all scorers with twenty-two points for Georgia Southern while Moore added twenty-one; collectively their team converted twenty-four out of thirty-two free throws during that contest.

Historically speaking Coastal Carolina has played ten times at Statesboro against Georgia Southern but only claimed four victories on those occasions; within conference play they hold a record of two wins and five losses when visiting the Eagles’ home court and have not won there since January 20th, 2022—a match they took by a scoreline of seventy-six to seventy-two.
