The Coastal Carolina men’s tennis team lost 4-2 to James Madison on April 3 in their Sun Belt Conference opener at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

The match was significant as it marked the start of conference play for both teams. The Chanticleers began strongly by winning the doubles point, with Iannis Fernandes and Curzio Manucci securing a 6-3 win on court two, and Rivers Cahill and Jack Dixon also earning a 6-3 victory on court three. This early success gave Coastal Carolina a 1-0 lead.

In singles competition, Christopher Norlin extended the Chanticleers’ advantage by defeating Esteve Agusti 6-2, 6-2 on court one. However, James Madison responded by winning four consecutive singles matches on courts two through five. Several of these matches were closely contested, including a three-set battle on court five that contributed to James Madison’s comeback victory.

The remaining singles match between Gur Libal (JMU) and Enzo Garutti (CCU) was unfinished when the overall result was decided. Doubles action also saw one unfinished match between Norlin/Tripathi (CCU) and Agusti/Schmitt (JMU).

Coastal Carolina will look to recover in its next home match against Georgia State scheduled for April 5 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
