The Coastal Carolina softball team achieved two victories on the second day of the Beach Chicken Brawl in Conway, South Carolina. The Chanticleers first defeated Binghamton 8-6, followed by an 11-3 win over Saint Joseph’s.
In the opening game against Binghamton, Coastal Carolina took a quick lead with two runs in the first inning, including an RBI single from Hannah Bendle. Binghamton responded in the second inning after a fielding error by CCU allowed a run. The Chanticleers expanded their lead in the fourth inning with five additional runs through a combination of walks and hits.
Binghamton attempted to close the gap later in the game. They scored two runs in the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth with an RBI single from Maddy Dodig. In the seventh inning, Emma Lawson hit a two-run home run for Binghamton, but Coastal Carolina managed to record the final outs and secure the win. Abby Henderson was credited with her fifth win of the season after pitching 4.2 innings and striking out four batters.
In their second game against Saint Joseph’s, Coastal Carolina started strong again, scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by Delaney Keith’s two-run home run and McKennah Metzger’s two-run single. Kaelin Cash added to their lead with a solo home run in the third inning.
Saint Joseph’s narrowed Coastal’s advantage to 5-3 during their half of the fourth inning before CCU responded with three more runs in the fifth via RBI doubles from Metzger and Livi Payne. In the sixth inning, Cash and Metzger hit back-to-back home runs to end the game under run-rule conditions at 11-3. Metzger also pitched a complete game for her first win as a pitcher this season.
