Coastal Carolina women’s basketball will face Georgia Southern on Saturday, February 14, in Statesboro, Georgia. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. ET and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ and the Chanticleer Sports Network.
Coastal Carolina currently holds a 12-14 overall record and is 5-8 in Sun Belt Conference play. Despite their conference record, the team ranks sixth among Sun Belt teams in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rankings at 126th overall. Coastal is known for its high volume of three-point shooting, ranking 18th nationally with an average of 8.9 made three-pointers per game and 29th with 25.8 attempts per game.
The Chanticleers recently ended a three-game losing streak by defeating Old Dominion 69-62. In that game, Coastal overcame a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter with a decisive 14-0 run. The team shot 39% from the field and made seven of their twenty-four three-point attempts.
Junior Tessa Grady led scoring for the fifth consecutive game with 22 points against Old Dominion. Over the last five games, Grady has averaged 22.6 points per contest while shooting 58% from the field and nearly half her shots from beyond the arc at a rate of 49%. She leads Coastal this season with an average of 14.3 points per game and ranks second in conference play for three-point percentage at 39%.
Through twenty-five games this season, Coastal averages just under seventy-five points per contest, placing them fifty-fourth nationally.
Georgia Southern enters Saturday’s matchup with an overall record of eighteen wins and six losses and sits tied for first place in Sun Belt standings at eleven wins and two losses within conference play. The Eagles are coming off a win over Arkansas State by a score of sixty-nine to sixty in Statesboro. Destiny Garrett leads Georgia Southern with an average of fifteen point three points per game, while head coach Hana Haden is now in her second season leading the program.
Saturday’s meeting marks the twentieth time these teams have played each other; Coastal holds a four-win, five-loss record when playing on Georgia Southern’s home court but won there last year by eleven points on February twelfth.
Both Kristin Williams and Tessa Grady rank among the top fifteen players nationally for made three-pointers this season—Williams is tied for third with seventy-seven makes while Grady is tied for fourteenth with seventy-three. They also hold second and third place respectively within their conference for threes made per game.
Head Coach Kevin Pederson introduced “Coastal Chaos” as his team’s defensive identity last season—a strategy focused on tough defense designed to disrupt opponents’ rhythm. Last year, Coastal led its conference by forcing more than twenty turnovers per contest; this year they continue that trend by averaging nearly twenty forced turnovers each game.
