Congressman Russell Fry, representing South Carolina’s 7th district, recently shared his views on various issues through a series of tweets. Fry, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after replacing Tom Rice, commented on topics ranging from Medicaid usage to legislative efforts against the opioid crisis and historical commemorations.
On June 4, 2025, Fry highlighted new data from the American Enterprise Institute regarding activities of unemployed individuals receiving Medicaid. He stated “GET THIS—new data from @AEI shows some of the most common activities for unemployed individuals receiving Medicaid are watching TV, playing video games, and SLEEPING! This is a slap in the face to Americans who truly need Medicaid assistance.”
The following day, June 5, 2025, Fry expressed his support for legislation aimed at combating the opioid crisis. He noted his vote for the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act by saying “I was proud to vote for the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act to continue the fight against the opioid crisis. This bill enhances President Trump’s 2018 law and delivers critical tools to combat fentanyl, support recovery, and save lives.”
On June 6, 2025, Fry commemorated D-Day by honoring those who fought during World War II. He tweeted “81 years ago, brave soldiers charged onto the shores of Normandy to fight for liberty and freedom. Their courage shaped our future—may we never forget their sacrifice.”
Russell Fry was born in Surfside Beach in 1985 and resides in Murrells Inlet. He graduated with a BA from the University of South Carolina in 2007 and earned a JD from Charleston School of Law in 2011.
