When Scott Heinrich arrived in Washington, D.C., after driving 450 miles from South Carolina, he stopped at the Lincoln Memorial on the western end of the National Mall.

“I was reading President Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address, and the words that struck me was that neither side wanted the Civil War,” Heinrichs told the Myrtle Beach Leader. “But one side started it and the other side would accept it rather than submit. The words ‘and war came’ struck me so much because here it is again. This country is so divided.”

The Myrtle Beach resident was among thousands of supporters of President Donald Trump who marched from Freedom Plaza to the U.S. Supreme Court across from the Capitol on Nov. 14 to question Election Day results.

“I came here today because this is the most historic moment in the history of this country since the Civil War,” Heinrich said in an interview at the rally.

The Associated Press reported incumbent President Trump won South Carolina with 55.1% of votes compared to 43.4% for Democratic challenger Joe Biden, but the Associated Press and many other media outlets have named Biden the president-elect after he gained 306 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 232.

“We cannot let Joe Biden control the White House,” Heinrich said. “We cannot because it will be the end of democracy and our republic.”

The Boston Herald reported Nov. 15 that 24 people were arrested as a result of clashes with Biden supporters that occurred during and after the March for Trump rally.

"I believe that one side has already declared war and what we are here doing is saying 'if you want to fight, you've got one because we will not submit to this,'" Heinrich said.

The March for Trump rally was part of a grassroots effort planned by different pro-Trump groups around the country to show a united front, demand transparency in elections and protect election integrity.

No state has found widespread evidence of voter irregularities, the New York Times reports.

Heinrich is also concerned with Biden’s energy policy.

“Joe Biden announced on Twitter he will stop fracking and that will destroy this country, fossil fuels and the cost of energy,” he said. "When Obama was talking about the Paris Climate Agreement, he said under this cap and trade carbon tax plan, energy costs must necessarily skyrocket.”

According to a Twitter post, Biden said he would not end fracking.
