Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce: Tidelands Health awards scholarships to team members

Hospitality management scholarships

Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on August 3.

Tidelands Health has awarded scholarships to five team members to help them further their health care education.

Each recipient received a $5,000 scholarship to use toward degrees in a health care field. The scholarships, part of the McRoy and Jo Skipper Initiative for Learning and Teaching at Tidelands Health, are funded through donations to and fundraising efforts of the Tidelands Health Foundation.

“We applaud this year’s scholarship winners for taking the initiative to advance their knowledge and skills by pursuing degrees in health care,” said Jeremy Stephens, vice president of human resources operations at Tidelands Health. “We are proud to support these talented and driven team members and invest in their education to help further their careers and enhance their service to our patients and community.”

This year’s recipients: Chante Gore-Elmore attending Kent State University, Kelly Risner attending Grantham University, Ashley Epperson attending Weber State University, Katherine McAlister attending University of South Carolina Aiken and Heather Schirra attending Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

To be eligible for the scholarships, Tidelands Health employee partners must be enrolled full time at an accredited college or school and be pursuing a course of study that is a prerequisite or requirement of a hard-to-fill position.

The scholarship program is funded through donations to the Tidelands Health Foundation and the annual Lights of Love campaign.

The scholarships are part of Tidelands Health’s multifaceted strategy to help prepare the current and future workforce to meet the growing demand for health care services in our community. In addition to offering scholarships to team members, the McRoy and Jo Skipper Initiative for Learning and Teaching provides nursing internships, leadership development of team members through the Tidelands Health Leadership Academy, scholarships for high school and college students pursuing health care careers and more.
