Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce: Community members encouraged to donate during Tidelands Health blood drives this month

Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on August 4.

Tidelands Health is partnering with the American Red Cross to sponsor two blood drives this month amid an ongoing nationwide shortage in blood supplies.

The American Red Cross continues to face a blood shortage nationally because of a rise in the number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries requiring blood products over the past few months.

Tidelands Health has not experienced a critical shortage of blood supply as a result of the national decline but encourages individuals to donate blood at the health system’s upcoming blood drives:

  • Friday, Aug. 6, noon-4 p.m., Howard Gym & Auditorium, 1610 Hawkins St., Georgetown
  • Monday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Waccamaw Medical Park South, 4367 Riverwood Drive, Murrells Inlet
Donors can make an appointment at redcrossblood.org. Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome. Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID.

“We thank all of those in our community who have heeded the call to roll up their sleeves and donate blood amid this national shortage,” said Ashley Capps, vice president of nursing and operations. “But we still have a crucial need for blood donations. We encourage everyone who can to donate at one of the upcoming blood drives. Your donation could help save a life.”
