Horry-Georgetown Technical College: Outboard Marine Students Receive Yamaha Certification

Outboard marine students receive certification

Horry-Georgetown Technical College issued the following announcement on August 9.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce that Outboard Marine students received their Yamaha IOS and MCP technician certificates for the Maintenance Certification Program from Yamaha Marine Corporation. These certifications are industry certifications that follow the student as they negotiate their careers in the marine industry.

“This is a remarkable achievement for our students and Professor Springs.  HGTC is changing, shaping, and building the marine industry for the future,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President.

The Outboard Marine Technology program runs for three semesters and provides training that covers all components and functions of an Outboard engine including service, diagnostic electrical systems, rigging, propellers, lubrication, lower units, and fuel systems. After completion of the program students will obtain skill sets needed to enter the workforce as an Outboard Engine Technician.

The program was created in response to a significant local industry need for a skilled workforce in this area.  The marine industry is growing at a rate that the technician labor supply is not matching.  Yamaha Marine has been a dedicated industry partner needed to ensure the success of the program.

For more information about the program, contact Professor Matt Springs at 843-349-3172.
