Georgetown County issued the following announcement on August 19.
Due to significant increase in the mosquito population across the county following recent rain events, Georgetown County Mosquito Control will conduct aerial spraying next week.
Weather allowing, aerial spraying will take place between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, and Wednesday, Aug. 25. Thursday, Aug. 26, will be used as a rain date. Based on weather forecasts, those were the earliest dates aerial spraying could effectively be completed, mosquito control staff said. Aerial spraying can't be conducted in wind or rain.
Areas to be targeted in the aerial spray include: Georgetown, Maryville/Esterville, South Island/Belle Isle, Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island, Plantersville, Pennyroyal, Sampit and Santee.
Those who have signed up with the county as bee keepers will receive notice via phone prior to spraying.
