City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on September 27.
Local youth can meet Olympic Gold Medalist Brittney Reese at Myrtle Beach’s Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9. Reese is the most-decorated women’s long-jumper of all time! Her appearance is part of the Track & Field Development Series from the city’s Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department.
The goal is to introduce local youth to the sport of track and field and provide current athletes and out-of-season opportunity. A four-time Olympian from Gulfport, MS, Reese won Gold in 2012 at the London Games and followed up with Silver medals in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. She has seven world championship titles (three indoor and four outdoor), one world silver medal and 13 USATF national championships. The event October 9 is for High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump and Pole Vault. Ages 7-18 are invited; no experience is necessary. Admission is $10 for the day. If you plan to participate, bring a water bottle, sun screen, athletic apparel, closed-to running shoes (event-specific spikes if you wish), and lots of energy! Participants will be grouped by age and/or experience level, with groups rotating through each of the event areas.
