445

Georgetown County issued the following announcement on October 25.

To commemorate Veterans Day and honor those who have served in the military, Georgetown County Parks and Recreation will offer free fitness center memberships during the months of November and December to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This also includes current members of the military.

In addition, starting in January of 2022, Parks and Recreation will offer a reduced-price fitness center membership to all veterans and those currently serving. This new price is $5.00 per month.

“As the spouse of a veteran, I am excited to announce this great amenity for those who have served our Nation,” said Beth Goodale, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services in Georgetown County.

To register, veterans and service members must sign up at one of the Department’s four regional recreation centers. For purposes of this program, a veteran is identified as an individual who has served in the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, and is able to present one of the following forms of identification when registering:

· Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

· Veteran ID Card

· Veterans designation on a state-issued U.S. driver’s license or identification card

· Department of Defense Identification Card for currently serving members
