Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on December 7.

Below is a statement from Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Karen Riordan in response to North Myrtle Beach City Council Passing a resolution committing to I-73 funding.

“The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to see that the City of North Myrtle Beach has passed a resolution to commit funding for Interstate 73. Not only will the communities of the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee benefit from the construction of I-73, but also the entire state as our region greatly contributes to South Carolina’s coffers. Our region is one of the fastest growing areas of the state and I-73 will allow us to support that growth, in part, by strengthening our economy, creating jobs, attracting diverse businesses, providing a vital hurricane evacuation route, reducing traffic congestion and more. While the city’s commitment is just part of the funding needed to bring this project to fruition, we’re confident that others will follow North Myrtle Beach city council’s leadership. We thank Mayor Marilyn Hatley and the entire council for their support.”
