Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on December 16.
As college football fans know, it’s bowl season and for the second year, Coastal Carolina University’s (CCU) Brooks Stadium will host the Myrtle Beach Bowl presented by Tax Act on Monday, Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m.
This year’s matchup is between the Old Dominion Monarchs and the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. A free “fan fest” will begin outside the stadium at 10:30 a.m. with music, food, vendors and interactive fun. Tailgating is also permitted. Tickets are still available and start at $30 for general seating, $45 for premium seating, or $90 for premium seating with access to the Tailgate Club, which includes pre-game food and festivities. Admission and parking tickets ($20) can be purchased on site or in advance by visiting MyrtleBeachBowlGame.com.
“We’re excited to welcome back the second-annual Myrtle Beach Bowl to Brooks Stadium. This year’s game will feature a full bowl experience for the two participating teams as well as for our local community,” said Jonathan Paris, Director of Sports Tourism for Visit Myrtle Beach.
Due to the proximity of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., the school’s marching band will perform at the game and a large number of students, alumni and fans are expected to attend.
Teams arrive on Dec. 16, staying four nights and generating more than 1,500 contracted room nights for the region. Prior to the game, teams will participate in closed practices and welcome receptions while their family members can take part in various activities to explore the destination.
“From the teams to the fans, those coming here for the Myrtle Beach Bowl will create a sizeable economic impact for our area hotels, restaurants, stores and attractions,” said Karen Riordan, Visit Myrtle Beach CEO and President. “Fans from across the country will also be able to watch the game on ESPN, which will put us in the spotlight to sports fans once again, just weeks after the Myrtle Beach Invitational in November.”
