Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on February 17.
The Tidelands Health MUSC Family Medicine Residency Program has earned reaccreditation for maintaining strict national standards.
The program was first accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in 2016 as it prepared to welcome its first class of residents in July 2017. It has earned accreditation from ACGME annually. ACGME is a not-for-profit, physician-led organization responsible for accrediting all graduate medical training programs for physicians in the United States.
To be reaccredited, programs must complete a thorough review and evaluation process by ACGME, which develops its requirements for excellence in clinical learning environments.
“We are pleased to once again earn the stamp of approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education,” said Dr. Mike Malone, director of the Tidelands Health residency program. “It’s a clear sign that our program meets the highest standards in providing a professional training and learning environment as these physicians begin their careers.”
Developed with support from the Medical University of South Carolina, the three-year residency program provides post-graduate training for physicians who have completed their medical degrees.
Tidelands Health developed the residency program, based at Tidelands Health Medical Park at Holmestown Road, to attract family medicine physicians to help meet the need for additional primary care doctors in the fast-growing region. After completing their residency at Tidelands Health, numerous physicians have joined the health system as family medicine physicians seeing patients in practices from Andrews to Myrtle Beach.
In addition to providing clinical training and experience, the residency program includes a focus on transformational leadership that helps physicians become high-impact leaders who understand the health care environment and develop essential business and leadership skills.
“Many patients in our fast-growing region are benefiting from the care and treatment provided by physicians who have completed our residency program,” Dr. Malone said. “We’re proud this program is helping attract quality physicians to care for our community.”
