City of Myrtle Beach: Run the Sun Car and Truck Show returns to Myrtle Beach this weekend

19

City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on March 15.

The 33rd Annual Run to the Sun Car and Truck Show returns to Myrtle Beach this Thursday through Saturday, March 17-19, at the former mall site on North Kings Highway. Considered the largest independent classic car show on the east coast, the three-day event features more 3,200 pre-1989 cars and trucks, 150 vendors and sponsors and 10,000 spectators on 54 acres. More information, including how to register a vehicle and purchase spectator tickets, is available at www.runtothesuncarshow.com.

For 2022, the event is under new leadership. The Pee Dee Street Rodders retired from hosting the show and handed over operations to long-time car show supporter and vendor, Michael Leaventon, president of Events Apparel. “The club thought Michael and his team would be the perfect fit to continue the tradition we have created over the past 32 years,” said Pee Dee Street Rodders member David Rodgers. “Our team has been working closely with Michael to make a smooth transition,” added Pee Dee Street Rodders’ Roy Lowman.

In the past, admission to the Run to the Sun was free, but that changes under the new management. Online ticketing is available through Eventbrite. Spectator rickets are $10 per day Thursday or Friday, $15 for Saturday or $25 for the weekend with a military discount. Children under 12 are free. Tickets are $20 per day at the gate. To put a vehicle in the show, the cost is $65 per car or truck, including 2 adult entries.

The event will continue to support many local and national charities, including National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Children’s Miracle Network at McLeod Children’s Hospital, Horry County Sherriff’s Department Benevolent Fund, Grand Strand Miracle League, United States Submarine Veterans Association, Florence Miracle League and the Carolina Forest HS NJROTC Booster Club. These donations are supported by entry fees, sponsorships and 50/50 raffle ticket sales.
