Tidelands Health has earned national recognition for meeting rigorous standards of safety and quality in performing a common digestive health procedure.
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has recognized Tidelands Health Gastroenterology as an honoree in the society’s Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program.
ASGE is the profession’s leader in setting standards of excellence in endoscopy through its safety guidelines and training of its members so that patients receive the best and safest care possible.
Tidelands Health Gastroenterology, with locations in Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and Georgetown, is one of only five endoscopy groups in South Carolina to earn ASGE’s recognition.
“This esteemed recognition by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is a testament to our team’s expertise and the high-quality care we provide to patients every day,” said Dr. Christopher Bach, a gastroenterologist and medical director of digestive health medicine at Tidelands Health. “Patients can rest assured they are receiving high-quality care that meets ASGE’s rigorous standards when they turn to Tidelands Health.”
Gastroenterologists often use endoscopies to examine a person’s digestive tract. A thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is used to look inside the digestive organs, which helps the specialists diagnose bothersome conditions such as anemia, inflammation, gastroesophageal reflux disease and more.
The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors endoscopy units that have demonstrated a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy by meeting the program’s strict criteria, which includes following the ASGE guidelines on quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines and more.
Through a peer-reviewed application process, Tidelands Health earned the recognition by demonstrating the competency of its staff, having an ongoing assessment of performance relative to key indicators and having personnel dedicated to infection control and prevention.
“We are proud to acknowledge these endoscopy units through our Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program for their commitment to promoting the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Lukejohn Day, MD, FASGE, chair, ASGE Quality Assurance in Endoscopy Committee. “By ensuring infection control principles are adhered to, continually assessing the competency of staff and monitoring patient satisfaction, ASGE-recognized units contribute to the public’s confidence in endoscopy, a lifesaving technology.”
With a team of board-certified specialists, Tidelands Health Gastroenterology can diagnose and treat a variety of digestive conditions, including acid reflux, celiac disease, heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, gallstones, colon cancer, hepatitis C and more.
