Tidelands Health, American Cancer Society to help cancer patients in need cover transportation cost

3

Of the many challenges facing patients with cancer, getting to their medical appointments shouldn’t be one of them.

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the American Cancer Society, Tidelands Health is easing that burden for cancer patients in need by helping cover the cost of transportation.

Many cancer patients receive daily or weekly treatments, often for weeks or months. Some patients of the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network rely on friends, relatives or specialty transportation services to get to and from those appointments. Others are on a fixed income and need assistance covering the cost of gas to their appointments.

“Getting to their appointments should not be a barrier for patients needing cancer treatments,” said Terry Pickett, director of cancer services at Tidelands Health. “This generous grant allows our team to help remove that transportation barrier so our patients can focus on their health and recovery. We are grateful to the American Cancer Society for understanding the need for transportation support and providing this crucial financial assistance that we offer directly to our patients in need.”

Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network offers cancer screenings, diagnosis and a broad range of treatment services, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. With locations in Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and Georgetown, Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network is the only provider in the region affiliated with MUSC Health’s Hollings Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center. Tidelands Health is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.
