MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.— The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) is thrilled to announce that Dawn Staley, head coach of the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team, will be the keynote speaker for the first-ever Ignite Women’s Conference. Staley will participate in a moderated Q&A luncheon as well as a photo session, allowing attendees to take images with the hall of fame coach and player.
“We’re ecstatic to have Coach Staley speak at this inaugural event designed to motivate women from across the Grand Strand. Dawn is such an empowering inspiration for women in our state and throughout the world, and we know she will bring an energizing presentation to all our attendees,” said Karen Riordan, MBACC President and CEO.
The Ignite Women’s Conference presented by Tidelands Health will be held at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022. Registration is open and available online at MyrtleBeachAreaChamber.com/Ignite.
Among Staley’s accolades, she has won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA as a player and later was head coach of another U.S. gold-medal winning team. She played with the American Basketball League and the WNBA and is a Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee for roles as a player and a coach.
In 2008, she was named head coach for women's basketball at the University of South Carolina, leading the team to six SEC regular season championships, six SEC tournament championships, eight Sweet Sixteens, four Final Fours, and two NCAA Women's Basketball National Championships.
On April 3, 2022, Staley led the Gamecocks to their second national title with a 64 - 49 win over UConn, finishing the season 35 - 2 and being ranked No. 1 in both major polls for the entire season.
