Georgetown County is pleased to announce that Aaron Bostic has been hired as the county’s new Assistant Fire Chief, taking over for retiring Assistant Chief Tony Hucks in November. Bostic is no stranger to local emergency services, having served at Midway Fire Department since 2015, rising through the ranks to Lieutenant. Most recently, he has been helping to coordinate disaster and emergency services at the county’s Emergency Management Department. But firefighting was always his first love. 

“If you asked my mother what I wanted to be growing up, she would immediately and undoubtedly tell you a firefighter,” Bostic reminisced. “I've always been fascinated with fire trucks, fire stations, and firefighters. I can remember all the way back when I was a young boy watching my father run from our house to Star Vol. Fire Dept.  - about a 300 yard sprint -  when the pager would go off.” 

As soon as he was old enough, Bostic joined the junior volunteer fire department in Seven Lakes, North Carolina, becoming a full member of the fire department when he turned 18. After graduation, he attended UNC Charlotte and majored in Fire Safety Engineering. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the fire department in Southern Pines, before moving to serve at Midway. 

Bostic is excited about the challenge that comes with being assistant chief, not only in terms of service to the community but support for fellow firefighters. 

“Moving forward, I believe the most important thing to keep in mind is a community first attitude,” Bostic said. “Along with that, I want to make sure Georgetown County Fire and EMS have the appropriate tools, knowledge, and expertise to provide the citizens of Georgetown County with the best fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services possible.” 

Fire Chief James Falkenhagen says he’s looking forward to working with Bostic. 

“I believe we have the hardest working men and women in the fire service,” Falkenhagen said. “Now, as one group moving in the same direction, we can only become better.”

Bostic thanks his entire family, his wife Brianna, and the fire service mentors he has had over the years for his success. He hopes to make all of them - and retiring Assistant Chief Tony Hucks - proud.    

“Tony has given 32 years of service to the citizens of Georgetown County.” Bostic noted. “In those years, he has gained a vast amount of institutional knowledge of how the county operates and how to appropriately apply Fire and EMS services. I am privileged to follow such service and I hope to make him proud.”
