HGTC Receives Purple Heart College Designation by the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Recognizes Active-Duty Military and Veterans
(CONWAY, SC) – Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) will host a Veterans Day recognition event on Thursday, November 10, 2022 for students and employees who are active-duty military and Veterans. A special Dedication Ceremony of the Grand Re-Opening of the HGTC Veterans Resource Center will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the new location on the Conway Campus.
The media is invited to attend the ribbon cutting for the Veterans Resource Center and presentation of HGTC as a Purple Heart College.
Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President, recently signed and accepted a proclamation that designates HGTC as a Purple Heart College. This designation signifies HGTC’s commitment to and honor of Veterans who were wounded in combat while serving their country and are now pursuing higher education and careers at HGTC.
“Our Veterans are to be commended for their service to our country, and HGTC is proud to honor the hundreds of students on our campuses every day who have made the decision to go back to school and better their lives,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “We have many student success stories to celebrate especially among our Veteran students and want them to feel our gratitude and indebtedness for their sacrifices.”
The College serves approximately 200 Veteran students and honors those who have sacrificed for our nation. The Veterans Resource Center is located on the Conway Campus and provides a comfortable atmosphere where Veterans or active military members can study, use computers, access Veteran resources, and visit with other Veterans. The Veterans Resource Center is also a meeting place for the HGTC Student Veterans Organization, which is open for current and future student veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, active-duty, National Guard, or Reserve.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College is approved by the Veterans Administration as a training facility to administer the various types of Veterans' resources. HGTC can assist prospective and current student Veterans by providing counseling and direction on all education benefits.
