MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—International Fraud Awareness Week is Nov. 13 – 19, 2022, and to help you protect yourself and others from fraud due to identity theft, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) has teamed up with Shred360, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful to host a free community shred event on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a “scamdemic” is upon us with this year resulting in a 55 percent increase in difficult-to-catch fraud. Experts say professional document shredding is one of the safest methods to prevent identity theft, privacy breeches, financial loss and reputational damage.
“By hosting this free shred event for the entire community, we hope to prevent identity theft and fraud, help our businesses build customer confidence, reduce clutter, protect the environment, and decrease fire hazards,” said Karen Riordan, MBACC President and CEO.
Shred360’s mobile document shredding is certified by the National Association for Information Destruction for following stringent security practices to ensure all sensitive information is properly disposed of.
Event participants are limited to shredding three boxes (copy paper box or smaller) or three bags (kitchen trash bag or smaller) per vehicle. Binders, binder clips, paper clips, staples, rubber bands and CDs/DVDs do not have to be removed prior to shredding. Enter the Pelicans’ parking lot off Robert M. Grissom Parkway and follow the signs.
In addition, MBACC is holding a blood drive in partnership with The Blood Connection from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pelicans’ parking lot.
