MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Carolina African American Heritage Foundation (CAAHF) in partnership with the City of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) are pleased to announce that the 2023 Grand Strand Freedom Week will be held Jan. 13-17 with a series of events planned to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

“Grand Strand Freedom Week is all about bringing our residents and communities together and empowering each other through education and support. The highlight of the week’s events is our spirited MLK Drum Major Parade, which is expected to be bigger and better in 2023,” said CAAHF Chairwoman Marcella Swans.

This year, the celebrations will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the historic March on Washington and Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech delivered on Aug. 28, 1963.

The MLK Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14 starting at 10 a.m. and traveling along Ocean Blvd. from 15th Ave. N to 8th Ave. N. Area businesses and organizations are encouraged to sign up to participate in the parade by Dec. 31, 2022. Applications can be found online at CAAHF.org or by contacting Parade Coordinator Will Williams at (843) 446-5494 or wjwilliams3@liberty.edu.

Olive AME Church in Myrtle Beach; and Drum-Major Awards and Breakfast on Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center; and the Economic Development Summit on Jan. 17 from 9-1 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
