U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and U.S. Congressman Russell Fry have announced the approval of a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) for South Carolina by FEMA, following an initial denial. The grant comes after Graham and Fry visited the site of the Carolina Forest wildfire to assess containment efforts.

The FMAG will cover 75 percent of firefighting costs, with the state responsible for the remaining 25 percent. This financial support aims to reimburse expenses incurred in battling the wildfire.

Senator Graham and Congressman Fry expressed satisfaction with FEMA's reversal of its initial decision, acknowledging their collaboration with state and local officials to address the denial. They noted that while there was no loss of life or destruction of homes, surrounding communities experienced significant smoke damage, leading to a decline in tourism in Myrtle Beach.

"This grant combines federal financial support with state resources and it will provide substantial relief to the communities who have been under stress," they stated.

They also praised firefighters from across South Carolina for their efforts in protecting homes and highlighted community solidarity during this challenging time as "an example of what makes America truly great."
