Traffic stop in Georgetown County leads to arrest and drug seizure on March 19

A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Georgetown man after deputies found drugs, a gun, and distribution equipment in his vehicle, according to a May 2 statement from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place at around 3 a.m. on March 19, when a deputy observed a car with illegal window tinting driving evasively near Highmarket and Reservoir Street. After pulling over the vehicle, the deputy detected the smell of marijuana and saw a blunt in the ashtray. A pat down of the driver revealed a Glock handgun concealed in his underwear. A further search uncovered approximately half a pound of suspected marijuana, some suspected ecstasy (MDMA), packaging materials, and a scale. The driver, identified as Justin Michael Sessions, was placed on warrant hold for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I-III substances and Possession of MDMA.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office bolsters community safety through programs such as the Citizens Academy, Explorer Program, Neighborhood Watch, Ride Along opportunities and Active Shooter Training according to its official website. The office manages several facilities including its main office at 430 North Fraser Street and operates its detention center at 2394 Browns Ferry Road as reported by its official website.

Affiliated with Georgetown County government according to information provided by the agency, the sheriff’s office runs a detention center capable of housing up to 212 inmates as noted by its official site. Its services also include trailer stamping initiatives aimed at deterring thefts and assisting identification efforts per details from their website.

The sheriff’s office states that it is committed to protecting citizens through enforcement operations as well as corrections, judicial processes and communications units as outlined on their official platform.
