Williams reaches milestone as Coastal Carolina defeats South Alabama

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball secured a 63-59 win over South Alabama on Saturday at the HTC Center. The game was decided in the final seconds when D’Yanis Jimenez scored a layup to break a tie, followed by Kristin Williams reaching her 1,000th career point with a free throw.

The first half saw both teams struggle offensively, with Coastal leading 15-10 after the opening quarter and taking a 24-21 advantage into halftime. Offense picked up in the third quarter as South Alabama outscored Coastal 29-24, taking a two-point lead heading into the fourth. In the closing moments, Jimenez’s drive to the basket put Coastal ahead for good. A technical foul on South Alabama head coach Yolisha Jackson led to Williams making her milestone free throw.

Tessa Grady led Coastal scorers with 15 points. Tracey Hueston recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Paige Bradley added 12 points and Jimenez finished with 10. As a team, Coastal shot 34 percent from the field and made just under one-third of their three-point attempts.

Coastal Carolina will play its next game against Louisiana on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Lafayette. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
