Dispose of old prescription medications safely and conveniently through a medication take-back event this month at Tidelands Health.
As part of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Tidelands Health is partnering with the Myrtle Beach Police Department and Shoreline Behavioral Health Services to provide community members with a convenient way to drop off their medications for proper disposal.
Community members can drop off expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Tidelands Health Medical Park at The Market Common, 2200 Crown Lane in Myrtle Beach. Needles, syringes, lancets, inhalers and liquids cannot be accepted during this event.
“We encourage community members to take advantage of this take-back event. Clean out those medicine cabinets and conveniently drop off those old prescription medicines for proper disposal,” said Cynthia Dominick, director of behavioral health operations at Tidelands Health.
DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to prevent misuse of medications and opioid addiction by disposing of unused prescription drugs so they don’t find their way into the wrong hands. Take-back events at Tidelands Health have led to hundreds of bottles of medications being collected and properly destroyed.
“While prescription medications are often needed to treat illness or maintain good health, we don’t want them to be used by anyone other than the prescribed patient,” said Dr. Sean Nguyen, a family medicine physician at Tidelands Health Medical Park at The Market Common. “This take-back event provides a no-hassle way to safely and securely dispose of old medications to help ensure they don’t fall into the wrong hands and end up being used inappropriately.”
