Congressman Russell Fry has been appointed to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for the 119th Congress. The selection was made by the House Republican Steering Committee.

The Committee on Energy and Commerce is recognized as the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It holds a broad jurisdiction, covering issues such as environment, energy, technology, internet access, consumer protection, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism, grid security, sports, and privacy.

“I am honored to earn a seat on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This is a critical committee when it comes to the needs of South Carolina and our nation as a whole. It wields the power to help increase energy production, lower energy prices, streamline technological innovation, ensure affordable healthcare, bolster manufacturing, and support tourism. The legislative actions of this committee will create a ladder for success for hardworking American families,” said Congressman Fry.

“I want to thank the Steering Committee for this opportunity. I look forward to working with incoming Energy and Commerce Chairman Brett Guthrie, fellow committee members, and my colleagues in Congress to implement President Trump’s America First agenda. Together, we will restore U.S. energy independence, cultivate a prosperous economy, and maintain dominance on the world stage,” Congressman Fry continued.

Chairman Brett Guthrie commented on Fry's appointment: “Congratulations to Congressman Russell Fry on being appointed to the Energy & Commerce Committee. Russell is a crucial addition to our Committee and I look forward to working with him to promote our all-of-the-above energy agenda as well as combatting the opioid and fentanyl crisis that has ravaged communities across the nation.”

Fry becomes the third member from South Carolina since 2000 to serve on this influential committee. Previously, Congressman Jeff Duncan served from the 115th through 118th Congresses.
